Why Sales is the Best Job in the World?

If I ask myself why sales is the best job in the world, I have it clear: For me, SALES is a way of life that allows me to grow and develop continuously both on a personal and professional level. I have always said that more than a profession, it is an ART that combines interpersonal skills, objectives and strategies, and a passion for connecting and relating to others.
We all sell from the moment we are born. We know how to negotiate from the time we are children with our parents to leave us the food we don't like, with our friends to go to see the film we want to see, or at the disco to win over the boy or girl you like. Everything is selling, and it is a skill that we use throughout our lives.
In the professional field, moreover, it is a career that requires the famous ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ skills like no other. We use hard or ‘technical’ skills to understand very well the product or service you are going to sell, to synthesise it and to be able to transmit its strengths and benefits to your clients. And ‘soft’ skills to know how to communicate, influence, negotiate and close sales.
But sales is not just that, it is much more. Selling is about relationships, trust, communication, helping others, patience, influencing, leading, negotiating, and more skills that can be acquired with the right training and coaching.
It is a very dynamic and varied job, where you have to like to listen and analyse what your clients' needs are, and many times, help them to define what they need, or even challenge them with the best solution that from your point of view and experience is the best for their needs.
No two days in the life of a salesperson are the same. Every day is a different challenge, a different meeting, a different problem, an opportunity, meeting or presentation that makes you always active and with the attitude to help others, both internally in your company and of course to your customers.
The variety of situations and experiences that you live makes you not fall into monotony and also requires you to be trained and aware of everything that happens in your sector, the market, the competition, the economy, and any area that may be relevant and that can change overnight and impact on the commercial actions (and negotiations) that you are doing.
In addition, it is a job that allows you to reconcile your personal and professional life due to the great flexibility in terms of working hours and mobility. Sales is a job based on objectives and results, so salespeople prioritise how they should spend their time in order to achieve the sales they have set for themselves. The timetable is a variable that ceases to make sense when you work in this way, as we all know very well when it is time to slow down to catch our breath, and to speed up to achieve the desired sales.
Creativity and innovation is a characteristic that also applies a lot in business relationships. No two sales processes are the same. The way of approaching sales, whatever the moment of the sales process, such as a first contact, a presentation, a negotiation, ... varies greatly depending on each salesperson. This is great because it will depend on the salesperson's genius and experience in dealing with these iterations with customers, and their know-how to achieve it.
In addition, it is a highly visible job within the company. Sales are the key to revenue, and therefore the exposure is very high, for better or worse. You have to be able to withstand the pressure and nerves of monthly closings, but it's part of the job, you have to get used to it, and you can withstand it by working on your soft skills.
On the other hand, there is no greater reward than the satisfaction of selling a project to a client whom you know you are helping and providing great value. This closing moment is brutal, and even more when you share it with colleagues who have participated throughout the process; it is a moment of great satisfaction for the good work done.
For all these reasons, I believe that sales is the best job in the world.
- It allows you to develop personally and professionally
- It allows you to help your customers and your organization.
- It allows you to network and meet new people
- It allows you to work for results
- It allows you to work flexible hours
- It allows you to face new situations continuously. Every opportunity is a new challenge.
- It allows you to develop your soft skills: communication, negotiation, resilience...
- It allows you to innovate and try new things
What do you think? Do you miss any other advantage of this job? Would you recommend it to people? YES, I would definitely recommend it to others.
